Erling Haaland’s father, Alf-Inge, has indicated that a future transfer to Real Madrid remains a possibility, despite his son’s current contract with Manchester City. The comments came ahead of Norway’s World Cup round of sixteen match against Brazil, fueling ongoing speculation about Haaland’s long-term future.
Haaland has been consistently linked with a move to the Santiago Bernabéu, with Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez reportedly identifying the striker as a key target. The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the world’s most prolific goalscorers, netting 162 goals in 198 appearances for City since joining the club.
Speaking to DAZN, Alf-Inge Haaland acknowledged his son’s happiness at Manchester City and the length of his current deal, but stopped short of ruling out a potential transfer. “Real Madrid move? He’s very happy at Manchester City and has a long contract,” he said, as reported by Fabrizio Romano. “We’re waiting for the new season… but anyone would want to play for Madrid. You never know what can happen in football.”
Haaland’s Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) currently stands at €141.8 million, placing him among the most valuable players globally, behind only Lamine Yamal and Michael Olise. However, Manchester City would likely demand a world-record fee for a player they extended a contract with until 2034 last year.
Despite the comments, a move to Real Madrid in the immediate future appears unlikely. Los Blancos have already secured the signings of Marc Cucurella, Bernardo Silva, Ibrahima Konate, and Denzel Dumfries for the upcoming season, committing to substantial wages for each player. Adding Haaland’s salary could present financial challenges. Furthermore, Real Madrid may prefer to wait for potential departures of Vinicius Junior or Kylian Mbappe before making a serious push for Haaland, given concerns about fitting all three into a cohesive attacking system.
