Paris Saint-Germain have completed the signing of Lucas Digne from Aston Villa, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The 33-year-old left-back has successfully completed his medical and will sign a three-year contract with the Ligue 1 champions. No transfer fee was disclosed by either club.
Digne joins PSG as cover for Nuno Mendes, who has struggled with injuries since arriving in Paris. The France international has 64 caps for his country and brings a wealth of experience to Luis Enrique’s squad. He previously played for Barcelona, Roma, and Everton before joining Aston Villa in January 2022.
At Aston Villa, Digne made 46 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as a regular starter under Unai Emery. However, with PSG offering a return to Champions League football and a prominent role within a top European club, the move proved appealing to the player. Villa will likely seek a replacement before the transfer window closes.
PSG are also reportedly seeking to add a right-sided centre-back who can also cover at right-back, according to sources close to the club. This addition would provide further depth and competition for Achraf Hakimi and Warren Zaïre-Emery. The club’s sporting director, Luis Campos, has identified targets and is working to bring in another defensive reinforcement.
Youngsters David Boly and Dimitri Lucea are also expected to feature in pre-season training, offering Enrique additional options in the defensive positions. Boly, typically a centre-back, has frequently played at left-back for the club’s youth teams, while Lucea has experience at both centre-back and left-back. Digne’s arrival strengthens PSG’s defensive options ahead of a challenging season where they aim to retain their Ligue 1 title and make a significant impact in the Champions League.
