Paris Saint-Germain are monitoring Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez, with manager Luis Enrique identified as a key driver of the potential transfer, according to reports in Spanish media. PSG are on the verge of securing the Ligue 1 title, needing only a draw against Lens on Wednesday evening, and are simultaneously planning for the future, including a Champions League final against Arsenal on May 30th.
Enrique is reportedly a long-time admirer of Alvarez, having previously attempted to sign the player when he was at Manchester City two seasons ago. Ultimately, Atletico Madrid secured Alvarez’s signature in a deal worth €75 million, bringing him to the Spanish capital to play under Diego Simeone.
Since joining Atletico, Alvarez has established himself as a leading figure in their attack, demonstrating the potential that initially attracted Enrique’s attention. His current contract with the Spanish club runs until June 2030, however, sources close to the player suggest he could be open to a move this summer. Transfermarkt currently values Alvarez around €90 million, but a bidding war could significantly increase that figure.
PSG are not alone in their interest, with Barcelona and Arsenal also reportedly tracking the Argentinian international. However, Enrique’s presence at PSG and his established tactical approach could prove decisive in attracting Alvarez to the French capital, potentially offering a system that aligns with the player’s strengths and ambitions. The appeal of working with a manager who has consistently sought his signature may also weigh heavily in his decision.
Alvarez’s arrival would further bolster PSG’s already formidable attacking options, providing Enrique with additional depth and versatility as they aim to compete for both domestic and European honours.
