Como forward Nico Paz is at the centre of a complex transfer situation involving Real Madrid, with the Spanish club reportedly demanding a €60 million fee for his permanent transfer. The situation arose after Paz, concerned about limited playing time at Real Madrid following the arrival of Bernardo Silva, expressed a desire to remain at Como for another season, including the opportunity to compete in the Champions League.
Real Madrid are open to allowing Paz to stay at Como, but are seeking a significant change to the original agreement. According to reports, Real would repurchase Paz for €10 million and then sell him to Como for €60 million. A further clause would allow Real to re-sign Paz in the future for €80 million.
However, Como are hesitant due to financial fair play regulations, which are increasingly important with their entry into European competitions. The Hartono family, owners of Como, possess significant financial resources, but must still adhere to these rules. Furthermore, Como are reportedly frustrated as the original buy-back clause was already valid for the next season, questioning the need to renegotiate.
Negotiations are expected to continue this week, with meetings scheduled in Madrid. Real Madrid currently hold the upper hand in the discussions. Paz’s strong performances in Serie A last season, scoring 12 goals, have increased his market value, and it is believed Real Madrid are aware of potential suitors willing to pay the €60 million asking price.
Inter are also monitoring the situation, having previously shown interest in Paz, similar to their pursuit of Filippo Solet. While Inter are downplaying their interest publicly, they have been actively courting Paz through Javier Zanetti, leveraging his relationship with Nico’s father, Pablo. Last summer, Inter also explored a move for another player named Nico, Williams, at the request of Oaktree. The close relationship between Inter and Real Madrid, exemplified by a recent legends match at the Santiago Bernabéu attended by Giuseppe Marotta and Florentino Perez, could play a role in any potential deal.
