Real Madrid to block Barcelona move for Osasuna winger Munoz
Barcelona's search for a new left winger has led them to Osasuna's Victor Munoz, but their pursuit is set to be blocked by their fiercest rivals. According to a report by Diario AS, Real Madrid are prepared to exercise a right of first refusal to prevent the 22-year-old from joining the Catalan club.
Barcelona are in the market for a left winger, with the future of current loanee Marcus Rashford uncertain. The club has identified Munoz as a target after his impressive debut season at Osasuna, which also earned him a first senior cap and a debut goal for the Spanish national team against Serbia.
However, the path to signing Munoz is complicated by Real Madrid. The 22-year-old forward only left the Spanish capital last summer, and as part of that deal, Real Madrid secured a buy-back clause, reported to be worth €8 million, and a right of first refusal on any future transfer. This means if Osasuna receives an acceptable offer for Munoz, they are contractually obligated to inform Real Madrid, who can then match the offer to secure his return to the Bernabeu.
According to the report, Real Madrid have made it clear they will exercise this right of first refusal, effectively blocking any direct move from Barcelona. The Catalan club would have to trigger Munoz's release clause, reported to be €40 million, to bypass Osasuna and negotiate directly with the player. However, even in that scenario, Real Madrid's right of first refusal would still apply, allowing them to match the clause and secure the player themselves.
Munoz, who recently changed his agent, is expected to have a busy summer. His form for Osasuna, where he has been a standout performer, has also attracted interest from several Premier League and Serie A clubs. His potential inclusion in Spain's squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup could further increase his value and the competition for his signature.
For Barcelona, the situation is complicated by the uncertainty surrounding Marcus Rashford. The Manchester United loanee has performed well, but the club is reportedly hesitant to make his move permanent at the price set by his parent club. Munoz, a young Spanish international, represents a long-term, cost-controlled alternative. However, the significant obstacle of Real Madrid's contractual rights presents a major, and potentially insurmountable, hurdle for the Blaugrana's transfer plans.
