Real Madrid have no intention of selling Trent Alexander-Arnold this summer despite reported interest from Manchester City, according to Spanish publication AS. The report aligns with recent comments from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.
Alexander-Arnold joined the Spanish giants from Liverpool in the summer of 2025 but has struggled to replicate his previous form. While considered one of the Premier League’s best right-backs during his time at Anfield, he has faced criticism for defensive vulnerabilities since moving to the Estadio Bernabeu.
Despite a difficult adaptation period and reported issues with team-mates, including public criticism from Dani Carvajal, Alexander-Arnold has established himself as Real Madrid’s first-choice right-back after overcoming hamstring and thigh injuries. Manchester City have reportedly identified the 27-year-old as a potential target, with intermediaries holding preliminary talks regarding a possible transfer in the summer of 2026, as reported by TEAMtalk’s Graeme Bailey in January.
However, AS reports that Madrid view Alexander-Arnold as a key component of their squad going forward. The club is planning for the future with players like Nico Paz and Endrick integrated into the attack, alongside established stars Jude Bellingham, Vinícius Júnior, and Kylian Mbappe. While potential changes in midfield are being considered, the report explicitly states that Alexander-Arnold is considered a ‘definite keep’ within the defensive line, alongside Antonio Rudiger and Dean Huijsen.
Fabrizio Romano echoed this sentiment in mid-April, stating that Real Madrid are “happy with the attitude” of Alexander-Arnold and believe he is adapting to his new surroundings. Romano dismissed speculation linking the player with a return to the Premier League or a move to Saudi Arabia, asserting that Alexander-Arnold will remain at Real Madrid this summer.
