Villarreal are planning for life after Dani Parejo, with Getafe midfielder Luis Milla identified as a potential replacement this summer, according to Diario AS. Parejo, 37, is out of contract at the end of the season and is not expected to be offered a new deal, potentially bringing an end to his career at La Ceramica.
Despite his age, Parejo has featured prominently for Villarreal this season, making 37 appearances across all competitions. However, his playing time has decreased as manager Marcelino Garcia Toral has increasingly favoured Santi Comesana and Pape Gueye in midfield. The club are preparing for a midfield overhaul as a result.
Milla, 31, has been a key figure for Getafe under Jose Bordalas, providing both defensive solidity and creative impetus. He is entering the final year of his contract at the Coliseum Alfonso Pérez, and has attracted interest from other clubs, including Atletico Madrid and Italian side Como. Getafe may be reluctant to lose both Milla and Mauro Arambarri in the same window, with Arambarri’s departure appearing more certain.
This season, Milla has registered nine assists in 33 La Liga appearances, placing him joint-second in the league’s assist charts alongside Ez Abde, Arda Guler, Marcus Rashford and Fermin Lopez, only behind Lamine Yamal. His performances have even sparked discussion about a potential call-up to the Spanish national team. Milla’s ability to dictate play and provide a creative spark would fill a void left by Parejo’s potential departure.
The potential acquisition of Milla would represent a shrewd move for Villarreal, adding a proven La Liga performer to their midfield ranks. Villarreal will likely face competition for Milla’s signature, but his contract situation could allow them to secure a deal at a reasonable price.
