West Ham United will play in the Championship next season after their relegation from the Premier League was confirmed on Sunday, despite a 3-0 victory over Leeds United on the final day of the season. Tottenham Hotspur’s win over Everton sealed the Hammers’ fate, consigning them to an 18th-place finish and a return to the second tier for the first time since 2012.
A significant player sale is anticipated at the London Stadium this summer, with the club reportedly needing to raise over £100 million due to financial pressures, according to talkSPORT. Several players are attracting interest from other clubs, and West Ham are expected to listen to offers.
Midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who joined West Ham following Southampton’s relegation last season, has emerged as a key target for Arsenal. Manchester United are also interested in the Portugal international, but Arsenal are reportedly in a strong position to secure his signature, potentially at a reduced fee due to West Ham’s relegation. Fernandes enjoyed a breakout season in the Premier League, establishing himself as a valuable asset.
Greece international Konstantinos Mavropanos, a standout performer for West Ham, is also expected to depart, with Borussia Dortmund among the clubs monitoring his situation. Dortmund have recently extended Nico Schlotterbeck’s contract, but remain in the market for a new centre-back, and Mavropanos is considered a viable option. He has spent the past three seasons with the Hammers.
Crysencio Summerville, a winger who contributed seven goals and five assists in 34 games, is also attracting attention from several Premier League clubs, including Aston Villa, Everton and Newcastle United. Everton may be well-positioned to sign Summerville, potentially as a replacement for Jack Grealish, who is due to return to Manchester City after a loan spell, and Tyrique George, whose loan deal has ended.
Jarrod Bowen, who recorded 20 goal contributions in 38 Premier League games this season, is being linked with a move to Liverpool, along with Chelsea and Manchester United. Liverpool are seeking a replacement for Mohamed Salah and could turn to the 29-year-old Bowen if a deal for Yan Diomande stalls.
Manchester United are also reportedly interested in West Ham left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf, as they look to provide competition for Luke Shaw. The Red Devils view signing a new left-back as a priority, and Diouf has emerged as a primary target following West Ham’s relegation. These departures could significantly reshape West Ham’s squad as they prepare for a Championship campaign.
