Liverpool loanee Harvey Elliott is attracting interest from RB Leipzig after a disappointing season with Aston Villa, according to German outlet BILD. The 23-year-old joined Villa on a season-long loan last summer with a conditional £35million obligation to buy, but failed to make the ten league appearances required to trigger the clause.
Villa manager Unai Emery has publicly acknowledged the situation as ‘embarrassing’, stating he apologises to Elliott for the lack of playing time. The Midlands club appear unwilling to pursue a permanent deal, opting to allocate funds elsewhere. Elliott has made only four league appearances for Villa this season, failing to establish himself in Emery’s plans.
Elliott initially joined Liverpool from Fulham in 2019, quickly becoming a promising young talent. He has featured sporadically for the Reds, demonstrating flashes of skill but struggling for consistent first-team opportunities. A loan spell to Blackburn Rovers in the Championship proved successful, but his move to Villa has not yielded the desired results.
BILD reports that Leipzig, who previously pursued Elliott last summer before Villa’s offer, are once again considering a move for the player, describing him as former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp’s ‘favourite pupil’. While Elliott is one of several players on Leipzig’s shortlist, the Bundesliga side are actively discussing a potential transfer.
Meanwhile, Elliott’s representatives have been sounding out potential moves within the Premier League. Leeds United, Brighton and Brentford have all been approached, with the latter two clubs potentially seeking to bolster their squads ahead of potential European campaigns. A return to Fulham, where Elliott began his professional career, appears unlikely following their recent signing of Oscar Bobb from Manchester City. Newcastle United, previously linked with Elliott, have also reportedly cooled their interest. A move to Leipzig could offer Elliott a fresh start and a more prominent role in a competitive European league.
