Elyaz Zidane, son of former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane, has signed for French second-tier side Red Star, the club announced. The defender joins the Parisian outfit after developing through the youth ranks at Real Betis. Zidane, who recently represented France at the Under-20 World Cup, will be looking to establish himself in professional football with the Ligue 2 club.
Standing at 1.96m tall, the central defender has spent his formative years within the Real Madrid system before a move to Betis in 2024. Despite being with the Spanish club, he did not make a senior appearance in La Liga or the Copa del Rey. This move represents his first opportunity to feature regularly in a senior team.
Red Star finished fourth in Ligue 2 last season and are aiming for promotion this campaign, making them an attractive destination for a young player seeking first-team football. His brother, Enzo Zidane, previously played for Rodez, another Ligue 2 side, and Elyaz will likely seek his advice on adapting to the league.
Zidane has been a regular representative for France at youth levels, gaining international experience while honing his skills. The Red Star appears to be a suitable environment for him to continue his development and potentially push for future opportunities. The transfer allows Zidane to play professionally in France, close to his family and the city where his father enjoyed a legendary career with Real Madrid.
