Everton are leading the pursuit of West Ham United’s Aaron Wan-Bissaka and remain in advanced talks to sign Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney, according to reports. The potential double signing represents a significant early step in what is expected to be a busy summer transfer window for manager David Moyes as he looks to rebuild following a disappointing finish to the 2025/26 season.
TEAMtalk reports that a new right-back has been identified as a priority for Everton, and Wan-Bissaka has emerged as a key target. The 28-year-old joined West Ham after Moyes’ departure from the club in 2024 and has been a consistent performer despite the Hammers’ subsequent relegation to the Championship. A source cited by West Ham news outlet ExWHUEmployee claims Everton are currently the most advanced club in the race for his signature.
West Ham are reportedly seeking a fee in the region of £15million to £20million for Wan-Bissaka. Everton are also said to be monitoring West Ham left-back El Hadji Malick Diouf, who is also attracting interest from Manchester United.
The move for Wan-Bissaka addresses a clear need within the Everton squad. Seamus Coleman has departed, and the future of Nathan Patterson remains uncertain, potentially opening the door for the former Manchester United defender to establish himself as a key player. The arrival of Wan-Bissaka could also allow Jake O’Brien to revert to his preferred centre-back position, strengthening Everton’s defensive options. Wan-Bissaka’s versatility, with the ability to cover both right and left-back, further enhances his appeal.
Alongside the pursuit of Wan-Bissaka, Everton are continuing negotiations with Middlesbrough for midfielder Hayden Hackney, who was named the Championship’s Player of the Season for 2025/26. While other Premier League clubs are also interested, Hackney is reportedly favouring a move to Goodison Park. Middlesbrough are believed to be holding out for a fee of around £20million. Securing Hackney’s signature would add further quality and depth to Everton’s midfield options.
These signings would provide a significant boost to Everton’s squad depth and quality as they prepare for the upcoming season, potentially setting the foundation for a more competitive campaign.
