Fabio Grosso has been confirmed as the new head coach of Fiorentina, the club announced on Tuesday. The Italian coach has signed a contract with the Serie A side that runs until June 30, 2028.
The appointment comes after a difficult season for Fiorentina, who will be hoping Grosso can revitalise the team and return them to a position of strength in Italian football. Club President Giuseppe Commisso expressed his delight at securing Grosso’s services, stating that the former World Cup winner is more than just a champion, but a coach who has built his career through hard work, ideas, and results.
Grosso brings a wealth of experience to the role, having previously managed Bari, Hellas Verona, and Brescia. He guided Bari to promotion from Serie C to Serie B during his time with the club, demonstrating his ability to build a successful team. His most recent managerial role was with Brescia, where he spent just over a year before departing in February 2024.
As a player, Grosso enjoyed a distinguished career, most notably winning the 2006 FIFA World Cup with Italy, scoring the winning penalty in the final against France. He also represented clubs such as Juventus, Inter Milan, and Palermo during his playing days. This pedigree is something Commisso believes will resonate with the Fiorentina supporters.
Commisso emphasized the club’s desire to begin a new chapter with Grosso at the helm, focusing on energy, ambition, and responsibility. He expressed confidence that Grosso possesses the personality, method, and enthusiasm to build a stronger, more competitive Fiorentina that remains true to its identity. The long-term contract suggests the club is placing significant faith in Grosso’s ability to deliver sustained success, potentially establishing Fiorentina as regular contenders for European qualification.
