Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco has set a new Serie A record for assists in a single season, providing two more in his side's 2-2 draw with Torino on Saturday. The Italian international's crosses led to goals for Marcus Thuram and Yann Bisseck, taking his tally to 17 for the campaign and surpassing the previous record of 16 set by Papu Gómez for Atalanta in the 2019-20 season.
The milestone was confirmed by league statistics following the match at the Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino, where Inter squandered a two-goal lead. Dimarco's delivery for Thuram's 23rd-minute header and his subsequent corner for Bisseck's 61st-minute finish appeared to have set Simone Inzaghi's side on course for a victory that would have moved them closer to the Scudetto.
Instead, Torino fought back with goals from Giuliano Simeone and a Nikola Vlašić penalty to share the points, delaying Inter's title celebrations. The record-breaking performance from Dimarco, however, underscores a remarkable individual campaign for the 26-year-old wing-back, who has become a fundamental creative outlet for the league leaders.
Dimarco, an Inter academy graduate, has spent his entire professional career with the Nerazzurri apart from several loan spells. His evolution into one of Europe's most potent attacking full-backs has been a cornerstone of Inzaghi's system, which heavily utilizes the width and crossing ability of its wing-backs. The new assist record formalizes his status as the most productive provider in the history of Italy's top flight.
The result leaves Inter needing a win against Parma next weekend to mathematically secure the championship. For Dimarco, the personal achievement adds a historic footnote to a season in which Inter have dominated domestically. His record-breaking form will be a significant asset as the club looks to conclude the title race and build towards next season's UEFA Champions League campaign.
