Chelsea midfielder Enzo Fernandez has indicated a potential desire to join Real Madrid by publicly ‘liking’ a social media post confirming Marc Cucurella’s transfer to the Spanish club, according to reports. Real Madrid have agreed a £52million deal with Chelsea for left-back Cucurella, who has also agreed a six-year contract at the Estadio Bernabeu.
Transfer insider Graeme Bailey of TEAMtalk reported the agreement on June 14, with Fabrizio Romano subsequently confirming the deal on Instagram. Fernandez’s reaction to the news has sparked speculation about a possible move for the Argentina international, with Ben Jacobs of talkSPORT reporting that the player is keen on a transfer to Madrid.
Chelsea are reportedly seeking a fee of £120million for Fernandez, who arrived at Stamford Bridge from Benfica in January 2023 for a club-record fee. The club is described as being calm about the situation but willing to sell at the right price. Real Madrid are believed to be considering offering players in exchange to lower the cash outlay for Fernandez.
Madrid have already secured deals for Ibrahima Konate, Denzel Dumfries, and Bernardo Silva, and have appointed Jose Mourinho as their new manager for a second spell. Fernandez’s social media activity adds fuel to the growing speculation surrounding his future, and his potential arrival would further bolster Madrid’s squad ahead of the new season. The situation could see significant midfield restructuring at both clubs this summer.
