Fikayo Tomori reaffirms commitment to AC Milan amid contract talks
Fikayo Tomori has reaffirmed his long-term commitment to AC Milan, stating he feels "at home" at the club and is focused on securing Champions League qualification amid ongoing contract discussions. The defender, speaking in an interview published on Tuesday, addressed speculation linking him with a move away last January and emphasized his desire to win more trophies with the Rossoneri.
Tomori revealed that while his representatives are in talks with the club over a new deal, his immediate focus is purely on the pitch. "The club and my agents are negotiating and I am focused on the last five games because playing in the Champions League is our objective," Tomori said. The 26-year-old joined Milan permanently from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 after a successful initial loan and was a key part of the squad that won the Serie A title in 2022.
The England international directly addressed rumors of interest from Juventus in the last transfer window, stating he never considered a departure. "Last year was difficult and we didn't qualify for Europe. There were some voices about my future also because I wasn't playing much," Tomori explained. "I, however, never spoke about it and didn't go into the subject: my only thought was to return to being a starter and help the team. Now I'm playing more and I'm happy."
He elaborated on his bond with the club, highlighting the Scudetto victory as a defining memory. "I have worn this shirt for almost five and a half seasons and I feel like a Milanista," Tomori said. "I won the scudetto in 2022 and that afternoon of celebration on the bus, in the center of Milan, is hard to get out of my head. When I arrived I immediately felt at home and nothing has changed."
Tomori also offered strong backing for manager Massimiliano Allegri, who replaced Stefano Pioli last summer. According to Tomori, Allegri immediately instilled a more defensively resilient mentality. "He transmitted to us the desire to suffer in order not to concede goals and his will to win," the defender stated. This approach has been central to Milan's improved defensive record this season as they sit second in Serie A, with Tomori making 29 league appearances and providing two assists.
The centre-back acknowledged the disappointment of seeing rivals Inter Milan close in on the title but pointed to a core of remaining title-winners, including Mike Maignan, Theo Hernandez, and Rafael Leao, who are driven to repeat the feat. Looking ahead, Tomori expressed his hope to be part of the England squad for the upcoming World Cup and suggested a long-term future in football, potentially in a business role utilizing his university degree, once his playing days are over.
His immediate priority, however, remains clear: securing a top-four finish. With five games remaining, Milan hold a significant advantage in the race for Champions League football, and Tomori's continued presence is viewed as integral to the club's project under Allegri.
