Barcelona have announced that manager Hansi Flick has signed a contract extension with the club, keeping him at Camp Nou until 2028. The extension, confirmed by the club on Saturday, comes after a successful second season for the German coach, culminating in a La Liga title and Spanish Supercup victory.
The Blaugrana announced the deal alongside interim President Rafa Yuste and Sporting Director Deco, highlighting Flick’s domestic achievements and his commitment to developing young talent from La Masia, having given debuts to 13 players during his tenure. The new contract includes an option for a further year, dependent on mutual agreement.
Despite Champions League semi-final defeats to Inter in 2025 and Atletico Madrid earlier this year, Flick has largely delivered on expectations since arriving at Barcelona. Atletico Madrid were the only team to defeat Flick’s Barcelona in a domestic competition, eliminating them from the Copa del Rey in March. He has secured five of a possible six domestic trophies, including back-to-back La Liga titles, and boasts a strong record in El Clásico, winning six of the seven matches he has overseen against Real Madrid.
Speaking after signing the extension, Flick emphasized the importance of stability for his team. He stated that the agreement allows for continued progress and provides both he and the club with the option to reassess the situation in 2028. He also expressed his satisfaction with the support he has received from the club’s leadership.
Barcelona are reportedly planning further squad additions this summer, with a focus on strengthening their forward line. According to Carrusel Deportivo, the club are targeting both a striker and a winger, with Julián Álvarez remaining a key target. This contract extension for Flick provides a stable platform for these potential signings and the continued development of the squad.
