Youssouf Fofana has removed all posts from his Instagram profile, replacing them with a black profile picture and a blank feed, leading to speculation about his future at Milan. The move, similar to that of teammate Mike Maignan, has prompted questions regarding his desire to remain with the club, according to reports from Italy.
Fofana is reportedly seeking assurances about his role within the team under new manager Paulo Fonseca. The midfielder feels he was misutilised by previous coach Massimiliano Allegri, being deployed in a more advanced role than his preferred position as a holding midfielder. He believes this positional change negatively impacted his chances of selection for the French national team.
The 25-year-old is keen to play regularly and feels Fonseca’s tactical setup, a 3-4-2-1 formation, could be a better fit for his skillset. However, competition for places in midfield is fierce, with the arrival of players like Modric, Rabiot, and Jashari. Fofana started on the bench in Milan’s recent friendly against Celtic, a potential concern for his prospects.
While a move to Besiktas has been mentioned, no formal discussions have taken place between the Turkish club and Fofana’s representatives. The English Premier League and Ligue 1 are considered natural destinations for the player, but no advanced negotiations are currently underway. Milan are believed to value Fofana at between €15-20 million, given his current contract situation which has two years remaining, and his previous international appearances for France. Fofana remains optimistic and is determined to prove his worth during the upcoming pre-season tour, having previously overcome significant obstacles in his early career.
