Nottingham Forest have begun discussions with Tottenham Hotspur regarding a potential move for midfielder Lucas Bergvall, according to TEAMtalk. The 20-year-old Swede has informed Spurs of his desire to seek regular first-team football, having made 78 appearances for the club since joining from Djurgarden in 2024.
Bergvall’s limited playing time under head coach Roberto De Zerbi has prompted him to explore options, with clubs in Germany and Italy also expressing interest in the technically gifted player. De Zerbi reportedly has reservations about Bergvall’s defensive positioning and physicality, viewing him as a rotational option rather than a key starter.
Forest’s interest is directly linked to the anticipated departure of Elliot Anderson, with Manchester City continuing to push for the England midfielder. The club is preparing to sign multiple new midfielders to compensate for Anderson’s potential exit. Alongside Bergvall, Forest retain interest in Celtic’s Arne Engels, despite having multiple bids rejected in January, though they now face competition from Crystal Palace.
Tottenham are reportedly open to a permanent sale of Bergvall, provided their valuation is met. The club is actively seeking to strengthen its own midfield, with West Ham’s Matheus Fernandes and Newcastle’s Sandro Tonali identified as key targets. Forest’s willingness to offer Bergvall guaranteed playing time is seen as a significant advantage in the pursuit.
Several other clubs are also monitoring Bergvall’s situation, including Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. Forest will need to act quickly to secure a deal, particularly as Bergvall’s signing is contingent on resolving Anderson’s future.
