Nottingham Forest have renewed their interest in Chelsea striker Liam Delap, with the player’s future at Stamford Bridge uncertain, according to The Telegraph. Forest previously targeted Delap last summer before he completed a €35million (£30m) move to Chelsea.
BBC Sport’s Nizaar Kinsella reports that Chelsea are looking to sell two strikers this summer, and Delap is among those potentially available. This comes alongside strong indications that the club is progressing in their pursuit of Brighton and Hove Albion’s Danny Welbeck.
Fabrizio Romano claims Chelsea are close to agreeing personal terms with the 35-year-old Welbeck. Romano detailed in a recent YouTube video that an agreement with the player is nearing completion, facilitated by the same agency that represents Harrison Bettoni, a recent Chelsea signing. Negotiations with Brighton regarding a transfer fee are currently underway, as Welbeck remains a key player for the Seagulls.
Delap experienced a challenging first season with Chelsea, scoring only one Premier League goal in 28 appearances. This followed a successful 2024-25 campaign with Ipswich Town, where he netted 12 league goals in 37 games. Prior to joining Chelsea, Delap had reportedly received offers from Forest, Everton, and Newcastle United.
Forest are aiming to support new manager Oliver Glasner in strengthening the squad, and Delap remains a target. Glasner was appointed Forest head coach on July 6th, returning to management after a successful spell at Crystal Palace, where he won the FA Cup, UEFA Conference League, and Community Shield. Should Chelsea secure Welbeck, speculation surrounding Delap’s departure is expected to intensify. The potential arrival of Welbeck would likely further limit Delap’s opportunities for first-team football at Chelsea.
