Real Betis have announced the signing of Fran Garcia from Real Madrid. The Seville-based club confirmed the arrival of the 26-year-old left-back on Wednesday evening, bringing him back to the club he previously represented in youth football. Garcia departs Madrid after a single season with the Spanish giants.
The Spaniard has signed a contract with Real Betis that runs until June 30, 2030. He has earned two caps for the Spanish national team, though his last appearance was in 2023. Garcia’s game time at Madrid was limited during the 2023-24 season, making only 13 La Liga appearances, largely due to competition from Alvaro Carreras.
Injuries also hampered Garcia’s opportunities, with Ferland Mendy sidelined for a significant portion of the campaign. The loan signing of Marc Cucurella further reduced his chances of regular first-team football. Garcia initially joined Real Madrid’s academy before spending three years with Rayo Vallecano, where he established himself as a consistent performer.
He returned to Madrid in 2023 and accumulated 109 appearances for the first team, including involvement in their successful 2024 Champions League campaign. The move represents a chance for Garcia to secure regular playing time and further develop his career at a club where he is familiar with the environment. Betis will hope Garcia can solidify their left-back position as they look to challenge for European qualification in the coming seasons.
