Roma manager Gian Piero Gasperini has indicated a strong desire to retain forward Paulo Dybala, suggesting contract renewal talks are progressing positively following the team’s 2-0 derby win over Lazio.
The victory, coupled with Juventus’ defeat to Fiorentina, propelled Roma into the top four of Serie A, giving them a two-point advantage over Como with one match remaining. Gasperini addressed Dybala’s future during a post-match interview with DAZN, stating that both the club and the player have a clear willingness to reach an agreement.
Dybala, a former Juventus player, has been a key figure for Roma since joining in 2022, contributing significantly to their attacking play. His current contract is set to expire, leading to speculation about a potential departure, but Gasperini’s comments suggest a renewal is increasingly likely. He praised Dybala’s professionalism, alongside other players whose contracts are expiring, noting their continued commitment despite uncertainty surrounding their futures.
Gasperini emphasized the importance of focusing on the final match of the season, where Roma can secure Champions League qualification. He also highlighted the team’s overall strength and unity, referencing captain Gianluca Mancini’s match-winning brace as an example of the collective spirit within the squad. Mancini’s two goals were decisive in the derby victory.
The manager also acknowledged the favorable results from other matches, specifically Juventus’ loss, which aided Roma’s climb into the Champions League places. Gasperini, however, stressed the importance of maintaining focus and avoiding complacency ahead of the final game, stating that the team must celebrate the derby win but immediately turn their attention to securing a vital three points. Securing Champions League football would represent a significant achievement for Roma and potentially solidify Dybala’s commitment to the club.
