Bruno Genesio is expected to begin his tenure as manager of Olympique de Marseille on July 6th, coinciding with the team’s return to training, according to L’Équipe. The former Lille coach is poised to sign a two-year contract with the club after reaching a final agreement regarding the composition of his backroom staff.
Genesio will be joined by Jérémie Bréchet and Dimitri Farbos as assistant coaches, with Nicolas Dehon taking on the role of goalkeeper coach and Thomas Choinard appointed as the head of performance. The appointment brings an end to a period of uncertainty surrounding the managerial position at Marseille.
This move comes as Marseille works to finalize the departure of current manager Habib Beye. While no agreement has yet been reached to terminate Beye’s contract, which runs until June 2027, the club remains optimistic about finding a resolution with the Senegalese coach. The situation has been ongoing, delaying the official confirmation of Genesio’s arrival.
Genesio previously managed Lille, guiding them to a fourth-place finish in Ligue 1 during the 2022-2023 season. Prior to that, he spent several years at Lyon, achieving consistent Champions League qualification and developing a reputation for tactical flexibility. His arrival at Marseille is expected to bring a renewed focus on attacking football and player development.
The appointment of Genesio signals a clear intention from Marseille’s ownership to challenge for top honors in Ligue 1 and potentially make a mark in European competitions. His experience and tactical acumen should provide a stable foundation for the club as it navigates a challenging period following recent financial scrutiny from the DNCG, the French football league’s financial watchdog.
