Gimnasia Jujuy's Emiliano Endrizzi Faces Contract Termination After Bomb Threat Prank
Gimnasia y Esgrima de Jujuy defender Emiliano Endrizzi faces the termination of his contract after a dangerous prank on a flight. The 32-year-old is alleged to have shouted "bomba!" (bomb) while boarding a flight in Argentina, triggering a major security alert.
The incident, which occurred on a domestic flight, forced the aircraft to be evacuated and a bomb disposal team to be called to the scene. According to local reports, the full-back made the comment as a joke, but it was taken with the utmost seriousness by the crew and airport authorities. The player was subsequently detained by police for questioning.
In a statement, the club expressed its dismay at the player's "unacceptable conduct" and announced it was taking disciplinary action. Club president Marcelo Cativa told local media that the club was moving to terminate the player's contract to "preserve the honor of the institution," suggesting the player's time with the club is over. The club is reportedly reviewing the legal process to terminate Endrizzi's contract and has already suspended him from all team activities.
Endrizzi, who joined Gimnasia Jujuy in 2023, has made 13 appearances for the club in the Argentine second division. The 32-year-old left-back's career has been spent largely in the lower divisions of Argentine football, with Gimnasia Jujuy being his most prominent club. The club, currently competing in the Primera Nacional, has stated that Endrizzi will face the "maximum sanction" for his actions, which they described as bringing the club into disrepute.
This incident is the latest in a string of off-field issues for the player and presents a significant disruption to the club's season. The Argentine Football Association is also expected to review the incident, which could lead to a league-wide sanction for the player. For Gimnasia Jujuy, the focus will now be on moving past the controversy and focusing on their league campaign, while Endrizzi's professional future in the Argentine league appears to be in serious doubt.
