Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner will leave Selhurst Park at the end of the season, with Wednesday’s League Conference final against Rayo Vallecano set to be his final match in charge, according to reports in France. The Austrian coach was announced as departing in January, but will oversee one last European fixture for the Eagles.
Glasner arrived at Crystal Palace in February 2024 and has overseen a period of success for the club, securing both the FA Cup and the Community Shield – the first major trophies in the club’s history. He expressed a desire to leave the club with a European qualification secured, believing it would allow Palace to compete at a higher level next season.
Speaking ahead of the final, Glasner revealed a heartfelt exchange with his players, stating they organised a farewell for him on Monday. He admitted his preference would be for the team to win the final not just for the immediate victory, but to earn a place in the Europa League next season, something he feels they should have achieved this year. He further expressed his hope of seeing them compete for and win the Europa League trophy in the future.
Glasner previously managed Wolfsburg and Eintracht Frankfurt, achieving notable success with the latter, winning the Europa League in 2022. His tenure at Crystal Palace has been praised for stabilising the team and instilling a winning mentality. A victory in the Conference League final would represent a fitting end to his time with the club, and provide a platform for continued success under a new manager.
The outcome of the final will determine whether Crystal Palace compete in the Europa League next season, potentially impacting their transfer strategy and overall ambitions for the upcoming campaign.
