Leeds United winger Wilfried Gnonto is attracting significant transfer interest from both the Bundesliga and Serie A, with several clubs considering moves for the 22-year-old this summer. Leeds are reportedly open to allowing Gnonto to leave as they seek to strengthen their squad under manager Daniel Farke.
Gnonto joined Leeds from FC Zurich in September 2022 for a fee of £3.75 million and has since made 146 appearances for the club, contributing to 40 goals through 23 goals and 17 assists. However, his playing time has been limited this season, particularly following Farke’s switch to a 3-5-2 formation that prioritizes width from wing-backs.
German side SC Freiburg are currently leading the chase, with discussions already underway between the clubs and Gnonto’s representatives. While a deal is described as challenging, Freiburg are pushing to secure the winger’s signature, and could offer Champions League football next season should they win the Europa League final.
However, several Serie A clubs – including Juventus, Inter Milan, AC Milan, Napoli, and Roma – are also exploring a potential move for Gnonto, who has expressed a desire to return to his homeland. Leeds are believed to be seeking a fee in the region of £15 million to £20 million for the Italy international. Any sale would represent a significant profit for the club.
Gnonto has demonstrated flashes of brilliance during his time at Elland Road, showcasing pace, technical ability, and an eye for goal. A move to a club where he can secure regular football could revitalize his career, which has stalled somewhat recently, including a limited role with the Italian national team. Leeds will need to reinvest any funds generated from a sale to maintain their squad strength.
