Barcelona have completed the signing of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United for a fee of €80 million, officially opening their account in the 2026 summer transfer window. The deal was confirmed on Thursday, marking the most expensive transfer completed so far this summer.
Gordon, 23, joins the Catalan club after a successful spell with Newcastle, where he developed into a key attacking threat. He scored 11 goals in 35 Premier League appearances last season, attracting attention from several top European clubs. Barcelona emerged as the frontrunners, and have now secured his signature.
The move provides Barcelona with a dynamic winger capable of both scoring and creating chances. Xavi Hernández has been vocal about the need to strengthen the team’s attacking options, and Gordon fits the profile of a young, exciting player who can contribute immediately. Barcelona have been relatively quiet in the transfer market in recent windows due to financial constraints, making this significant outlay a statement of intent.
Elsewhere in Europe, Real Madrid have been equally active, securing Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella for €55 million. They have also added Bernardo Silva from Manchester City and Ibrahima Konate from Liverpool on free transfers, alongside an agreement for Inter Milan’s Denzel Dumfries. Tottenham Hotspur have signed Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton for €60 million, and added Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka as free agents. Liverpool have brought in Jeremy Jacquet from Stade Rennais as a replacement for Konate, while Chelsea have pre-agreed deals for four players: Geovany Quenda, Denner, Dastan Satpaev, and Emmanuel Emegha.
Several other deals were confirmed across the top five European leagues on Thursday, including Mathys Detourbet’s move from Troyes to Manchester City for €25 million, and Nicolas Lemaitre’s free transfer from Troyes to Stade Rennais. These moves signal a busy summer transfer window as clubs look to reshape their squads ahead of the new season.
