Barcelona have completed the signing of Newcastle United winger Anthony Gordon for a fee of €80 million, officially opening their account in the 2026 summer transfer window. The deal represents the most expensive transfer completed so far this window, according to reports from FootballTransfers. The move comes as Barcelona look to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Gordon, 23, enjoyed a breakthrough season with Newcastle, becoming a key player under Eddie Howe and contributing significantly to their Champions League qualification. He joined Newcastle from Everton in January 2023 for a reported £40 million, and his rapid development has attracted interest from several top European clubs. Barcelona identified Gordon as a priority target to add pace and creativity to their forward line.
Real Madrid have also been active, securing Chelsea left-back Marc Cucurella for €55m. Los Blancos have further strengthened their squad with free transfers for Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva and Liverpool’s Ibrahima Konate. An agreement is also in place to sign Inter Milan full-back Denzel Dumfries, with the club also expressing interest in Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez.
Tottenham Hotspur have been equally busy, bringing in Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton & Hove Albion for €60m. They have also added experienced players Andrew Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka on free transfers from Liverpool, Bournemouth, and Burnley respectively. These signings signal a clear intent from Spurs to improve upon their recent league performance.
Elsewhere, Liverpool have secured Stade Rennais’ Jeremy Jacquet for €63.6m as a replacement for Konate. Chelsea have pre-agreed deals for Geovany Quenda, Denner, Dastan Satpaev and Emmanuel Emegha. Other notable moves include Piero Hincapie moving from Bayer Leverkusen to Arsenal for €40m. These early moves suggest a dynamic transfer window across Europe’s top five leagues.
Several high-profile players, including Mohamed Salah, John Stones, and Robert Lewandowski, are available on free transfers this summer, while Julian Alvarez and Morgan Rogers are expected to be the subject of bids exceeding €100m. The window is still in its early stages, but the flurry of activity indicates a busy summer for clubs across the continent.
