Robin Gosens is undergoing a medical with Schalke 04 ahead of a permanent transfer from Fiorentina, according to reports from Viola News. The German left-back arrived in Gelsenkirchen on Tuesday to finalise the move to his boyhood club.
Gosens is nearing a return to Schalke, a club he previously represented in his youth career. The move comes after speculation linking him with a departure from Fiorentina, where he joined in 2022 from Atalanta. He made 35 appearances for the Serie A side across all competitions, contributing with one goal and four assists.
Viola News reports that Gosens has agreed to a reduction in his salary to facilitate the transfer, demonstrating his commitment to joining Schalke 04. The financial details of the deal have not been disclosed by either club at this time. Schalke 04 were recently promoted back to the Bundesliga after a difficult period that saw them relegated in 2023.
Gosens began his professional career with VFL Bochum before joining Schalke’s youth system. He later moved to Atalanta in 2017, where he established himself as a key player, notably featuring in the Champions League. He also earned international recognition with the German national team, earning 14 caps and representing his country at Euro 2020. His return to Schalke is seen as a significant boost for the club as they prepare for the challenges of the Bundesliga season.
The transfer provides Schalke 04 with an experienced international player in a key position, while allowing Gosens to return to the club he supported growing up. This move strengthens Schalke’s squad as they look to consolidate their position in the German top flight.
