FC Schalke 04 have agreed terms to sign Robin Gosens on loan from AC Florenz, according to reports from Sportschau. The deal, finalized on Wednesday, is contingent upon the player successfully completing a medical examination scheduled for Friday.
The 32-year-old will initially join Schalke on a season-long loan, with the Bundesliga side holding a purchase option should they maintain their top-flight status. Should Schalke avoid relegation, they would be obligated to pay a transfer fee of approximately €2.5 million to secure Gosens permanently. He currently has a contract with Florenz that runs until 2028.
This move represents a significant boost for Schalke, who were recently promoted back to the Bundesliga. Gosens is expected to strengthen the team’s left-back position, bringing both quality and experience to the squad. The club has long held a special place in Gosens’s heart, as he previously acknowledged Schalke as the team that introduced him to football.
In March 2025, Gosens told Kicker that a return to Schalke remained a future aspiration. The player, born in Emmerich – approximately 100 kilometers from Gelsenkirchen – has consistently expressed his affection for the club. He will bring a wealth of international experience to the team, having earned 24 caps for the German national team.
Schalke manager Miron Muslic is known to value players with strong mentality, experience, and leadership qualities, all of which Gosens possesses. The move also offers Gosens an opportunity to regain the attention of the national team selectors, with his last appearance for Germany occurring a year ago. The loan deal provides a platform for him to showcase his abilities and potentially earn a recall to the national squad.
The transfer is seen as mutually beneficial, addressing Schalke’s need for a quality left-back while fulfilling a long-held ambition for Gosens. His experience and leadership are expected to be invaluable as Schalke navigate their return to the Bundesliga.
