Marseille forward Mason Greenwood is expected to leave the club this summer following a breakdown in his relationship with the club and manager Habib Beye, according to TEAMtalk. Despite a prolific season with 47 goals and 16 assists in 79 appearances, tensions have reportedly developed behind the scenes, with questions raised about his commitment.
Sources indicate that Greenwood’s relationship with Beye has deteriorated significantly, and he has faced external criticism, including a scathing attack from Marseille legend Christophe Dugarry, who believes he should no longer play for the club. This growing friction has now placed Greenwood on course to depart during the upcoming transfer window.
A return to the Premier League appears highly improbable at this stage. English clubs are understood to consider Greenwood effectively off limits despite his strong form in Ligue 1. Speculation linking him with a reunion with former Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi at Tottenham Hotspur has been dismissed, with Spurs not currently considering a move.
De Zerbi’s previous defence of Greenwood while in France reportedly led to backlash from some Tottenham fans, influencing his decision not to push for the forward’s signing despite acknowledging his ability. While a move back to England seems unlikely, Greenwood is attracting interest from elsewhere in Europe.
Juventus and Atletico Madrid are both long-term admirers of the 24-year-old and are exploring the possibility of a transfer this summer. Both clubs view Greenwood as a player who could significantly strengthen their attacking options. Marseille originally paid Manchester United just over £25million for Greenwood and are expected to seek a substantial profit on that investment, with United also set to benefit from a sell-on clause included in the original agreement.
