Mason Greenwood is potentially on the move again, with Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce emerging as his likely destination this summer. The news comes as Fenerbahce presidential candidate Hakan Safi revealed an agreement in principle with the forward, contingent on his election victory.
Greenwood currently plays for Marseille, having been sold by Manchester United in the summer of 2024 for a reported £26 million. During his time at Old Trafford, the England international scored 35 goals and provided 12 assists in 129 appearances across all competitions. A key element of that sale, according to The Manchester Evening News, was a 40% sell-on clause retained by United.
Safi stated that a four-year agreement has been reached with Greenwood, adding, “He has proven himself at the highest level of European football… He has agreed to join Fenerbahçe during the most valuable and productive years of his career.” Marseille are reportedly seeking a fee of £47.5 million for the player.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has highlighted the financial benefit this potential transfer could bring to Manchester United. Romano explained on his YouTube channel that the club is “really interested” in the situation due to the significant sell-on clause. He stated the clause is “more than” 5%, 7%, or 10%, suggesting a substantial return for the Red Devils should Greenwood complete a move to Fenerbahce. The potential influx of funds is particularly welcome under the new ownership structure led by INEOS.
The outcome of Fenerbahce’s presidential election will be crucial, but the agreement on personal terms suggests a strong desire from both parties to finalize the transfer. Should Greenwood move to Turkey, it would represent a significant financial gain for Manchester United while allowing the player to continue his career at a high level.
