Mason Greenwood has reached an agreement with Fenerbahçe, according to a report in L’Équipe. The English winger is a priority target for the Turkish club and their coach, though a transfer fee remains a sticking point between the two clubs.
Fenerbahçe are reportedly prepared to offer €30 million plus bonuses for Greenwood, an offer Marseille are likely to deem insufficient. The French club are under financial pressure and may be compelled to sell players this summer, but officials believe Greenwood represents both symbolic and financial value, and will not be sold cheaply.
Greenwood, 24, was previously a target for Hakan Safi, a candidate in Fenerbahçe’s recent club elections. Although Safi secured an agreement with the player before losing the election, the new Fenerbahçe leadership has continued to pursue the transfer. They are keen to sign Greenwood despite attempting to negotiate a lower price than Marseille are seeking.
Recent reports suggest Marseille may face scrutiny from the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog, adding further urgency to their need to generate transfer revenue. The club recently confirmed the departure of Cengiz Ünder to another Turkish club, a move that will contribute to their financial restructuring.
Greenwood’s potential arrival would bolster Fenerbahçe’s attacking options ahead of the new season. For Marseille, a sale would alleviate some of their financial concerns, though they are determined to secure a fee that reflects the player’s value. The situation remains fluid as negotiations continue between the two clubs.
