Mason Greenwood is potentially on the move again, with Fenerbahce emerging as a strong contender to sign the forward this summer. The Turkish Super Lig club’s presidential candidate, Hakan Safi, has announced a four-year agreement in principle with Greenwood, contingent upon winning upcoming elections.
Greenwood currently plays for Marseille, having been sold by Manchester United in the summer of 2024 for a reported £26 million. During his time at Old Trafford, the England international scored 35 goals and provided 12 assists in 129 appearances across all competitions. He established himself as a promising talent before his departure.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United retain a significant financial interest in Greenwood’s future. The club negotiated a sell-on clause in the deal with Marseille, reportedly exceeding 10%, meaning they stand to benefit financially from any further transfer. Romano stated on his YouTube channel that United are “really interested” in this potential windfall.
Marseille are reportedly seeking a fee of £47.5 million for Greenwood. Should Fenerbahce meet that valuation, Manchester United would receive a substantial percentage of the transfer fee, providing additional funds for their own transfer business. The potential sale represents a way for the club to recoup some revenue from a player they no longer have in their squad. This financial benefit is particularly welcomed by the new ownership group, INEOS, according to reports. The move could allow both Marseille to turn a profit and United to capitalize on Greenwood’s continued development.
