Brajan Gruda has informed RB Leipzig of his desire to remain with the club beyond the end of his current loan spell from Brighton & Hove Albion, though a permanent transfer hinges on Brighton’s willingness to negotiate a fee. Leipzig’s managing director for sport, Marcel Schäfer, confirmed Gruda’s intentions to Bild, stating the club also values the 22-year-old and is awaiting a response from Brighton.
Gruda joined Leipzig on loan in January 2024 and has quickly become a valuable asset, contributing three goals and two assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances. His performances have evidently impressed both the club and the player, making a continued association a priority for both parties. However, a permanent deal is complicated by Brighton’s valuation of the player.
Schäfer indicated that a transfer fee “well above €20 million” would be beyond Leipzig’s current financial capabilities. The club operates under strict financial limits and is hesitant to overspend, particularly given the current economic climate. This valuation is particularly noteworthy considering Brighton themselves only signed Gruda from Mainz earlier this year for a reported €31.5 million.
As a result, Leipzig are exploring the possibility of extending Gruda’s loan, potentially including a mandatory purchase option for the following season. This would allow the club to secure his services for the immediate future while deferring the significant financial outlay. It would also give Leipzig time to reassess their financial position and potentially raise funds for a permanent transfer.
Gruda’s career has seen a steady upward trajectory, progressing through the youth ranks at Mainz before earning a move to Brighton. While he didn't fully establish himself in the Premier League, his loan spell at Leipzig has revitalized his form and demonstrated his potential. A longer-term stay in Leipzig would provide Gruda with a stable platform to continue his development and contribute to a team competing in the Champions League. The outcome of negotiations will likely determine Gruda’s role in both clubs’ future plans.
