Manchester City’s Premier League title hopes suffered a blow after a 3-3 draw against Everton at the Hill Dickinson Stadium on Monday evening. Despite rescuing a point after trailing 3-1 until the 83rd minute, the result leaves City five points behind league leaders Arsenal, having played one game fewer.
Speaking to Sky Sports after the match, manager Pep Guardiola acknowledged the setback. He stated his team were “exceptional” in the first half but conceded Everton raised their level in the second period, while also praising his team’s overall performance.
Guardiola was pragmatic when discussing the title race, admitting, “It’s better than to lose.” He then went on to say the destiny of the league is no longer solely within City’s control, stating, “Before, it was in our hands, now it is not.” Despite this, Guardiola remains determined to fight on, adding, “We have games to play. We will see what happens… As long as it’s not finished, we will continue.”
City now face a crucial run of fixtures against Brentford, Crystal Palace, Bournemouth, and Aston Villa, needing maximum points and hoping for slip-ups from Arsenal. The draw at Everton represents a significant dent in their title ambitions, requiring a near-perfect finish to the season and relying on results elsewhere. This outcome places increased pressure on City to capitalize on their game in hand and maintain their pursuit of a fourth consecutive Premier League title.
