Former Inter midfielder Fredy Guarin has expressed his desire for Alessandro Bastoni to remain with the Nerazzurri, despite reported interest from Barcelona. Guarin shared his thoughts in an interview with Onefootball, emphasizing Bastoni’s importance to the team and his successful integration into the club.
Bastoni has been a key figure in Inter’s defense in recent seasons, contributing to their Serie A title win in 2021 and their recent Champions League final appearance. The 25-year-old centre-back has established himself as one of the league’s top defenders, attracting attention from several European clubs, most notably Barcelona. However, recent reports suggest that Barcelona’s interest may be waning.
“Well, I prefer that he stays at Inter,” Guarin stated. “He is an Inter player, a player I have known for many years. He is young and very well integrated, and he is one of the leaders of Inter.” Guarin acknowledged that Bastoni would likely succeed at any club he joined, should he choose to move.
Bastoni’s comfort in Milan is also reportedly a significant factor in his potential decision to stay. He has become a fan favorite and a cornerstone of the Inter squad under manager Simone Inzaghi. The club will be keen to retain his services as they look to build on their recent successes and challenge for further silverware.
The defender’s continued presence would provide stability to the Inter defense and maintain a crucial element of their tactical setup. Should Bastoni depart, Inter would likely face a challenging search for a suitable replacement, potentially disrupting their squad dynamics. His commitment to the club will be vital as they prepare for another competitive season.
