Bruno Guimaraes has granted Arsenal permission to continue negotiations with Newcastle United regarding a potential transfer, FootballTransfers can exclusively reveal. The Gunners reportedly submitted a verbal offer, through intermediaries, believed to be below €69.5million (£60m), which Newcastle rejected according to The Athletic. This approach followed Guimaraes indicating his willingness to consider a move to the Emirates Stadium.
FootballTransfers understands Arsenal policy dictates they do not initiate contact with clubs unless they have first spoken with the player, highlighting Guimaraes’ openness to the transfer. News of the ongoing discussions comes as the Daily Mail reported Arsenal are considering a second bid for the Brazilian international, who is currently participating in the World Cup with his national team.
Guimaraes has become a key figure in midfield for Newcastle since arriving from Lyon in 2022, contributing 31 goals in 195 appearances. He was instrumental in Newcastle’s 2025 Carabao Cup victory, ending the club’s 70-year trophy drought with a win over Liverpool at Wembley. Despite his importance, Guimaraes will turn 29 in November and has only two years remaining on his contract at St. James’ Park.
BBC Sport suggests Guimaraes’ age is a factor in Arsenal’s valuation, with the same outlet also reporting Mikel Arteta’s interest in Newcastle teammate Sandro Tonali. Tonali, a 26-year-old defensive midfielder, has been a long-standing target for Arsenal, as reported by FootballTransfers in February. Tottenham Hotspur previously saw a bid of around €92m (£80m) for Tonali rejected, with Manchester City also reportedly interested, according to BBC Sport.
In separate news, FootballTransfers understands Arsenal are not currently pursuing a deal for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, despite previously adding him to their shortlist. While The Athletic reported Arsenal’s interest in the 22-year-old, valued at €92m (£80m) by Bournemouth, the club is not presently preparing a bid. Bournemouth are reportedly keen to retain Scott, who helped the club qualify for the Europa League with a sixth-place finish in the 2025-26 season.
