Joško Gvardiol has extended his contract with Manchester City until 2031, the club announced on Tuesday. The Croatian defender, who arrived at the Etihad Stadium from RB Leipzig in 2023 for a reported £77 million, will remain with the Premier League champions for another three years beyond his initial deal.
Gvardiol’s first season with City was disrupted by a tibia fracture sustained in January, sidelining him for four months. He recovered in time to be included in Croatia’s squad for the European Championship, though his nation was eliminated in the round of 16 by Portugal. Despite the injury, he made a significant impact, featuring in 122 matches across all competitions in three seasons.
Prior to his injury, Gvardiol had established himself as a key player in Pep Guardiola’s squad, earning the Cityzen of the Season award for the 2024-2025 campaign. He has already secured a number of titles with the club, including the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup in 2023, the Premier League and Community Shield in 2024, and the League Cup in 2026. He was not part of the squad that won the FA Cup.
