Former Norway international Magnus Wolff Eikrem has expressed his conviction that Erling Haaland will one day play for Real Madrid. Eikrem, who played alongside Haaland at Molde between 2018 and 2019, stated he believes a move to the Spanish capital is “something that can happen perfectly” and that he is “convinced it will happen one day” in an interview with Spanish outlet Diario AS.
Haaland has established himself as one of football’s premier goalscorers since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in 2022, amassing an impressive 162 goals in 198 games for the club. The 26-year-old was instrumental in City’s historic treble-winning campaign in 2022-23, scoring 52 goals in all competitions. He also recently led Norway to the quarter-finals of the World Cup, scoring both goals in a notable last-16 victory over Brazil.
The speculation surrounding Haaland’s potential move to Real Madrid is not new; his father, Alf-Inge Haaland, previously indicated that “anyone would want to play for Madrid” when questioned about the possibility. Eikrem further elaborated on why a move to Real Madrid would benefit the striker, suggesting the club’s global stature could elevate Haaland’s profile even further.
“Real Madrid's power of attraction in the world is immense and although he is in a great club like City, I think that in Madrid he would reach a higher level,” Eikrem said. “The best in the world play there and Erling is one of them. I think he would score a lot of goals, fit in well, like the fans and enjoy the game surrounded by so many stars as good as him.”
Haaland is currently under contract with Manchester City until 2034 and preparing for his fifth season with the club, now under new manager Enzo Maresca following Pep Guardiola’s departure. City have already added Elliot Anderson, Mathys Detourbet, Jeremy Monga, and Pierce Charles to their squad for the upcoming 2026-27 Premier League season. Meanwhile, according to reports from The Athletic’s David Ornstein, Real Madrid are actively pursuing a deal to sign Rodri from Manchester City.
