Hamburger SV are continuing their efforts to sign Arsenal midfielder Fabio Vieira, despite a significant difference in valuation between the two clubs. The 26-year-old spent the 2025/26 season on loan at Hamburg after a previous loan spell at Porto in 2024/25, and is considered surplus to requirements at the Emirates Stadium.
Vieira impressed during his time in the Bundesliga, playing a key role in Hamburg’s successful fight to maintain their league status following their return to the top flight. He registered seven goals and five assists in 29 league appearances, quickly becoming a fan favourite at the Volksparkstadion. Hamburg had a purchase option as part of the initial loan agreement, but the stipulated €20 million fee proved unattainable for the club.
Arsenal are reportedly unwilling to lower their asking price, believing Vieira’s value remains at €20 million or higher. Hamburg are currently offering a fee closer to €10 million, and are hoping to convince Arsenal to compromise. According to board member Eric Huwer, the club are “fighting” to bring Vieira back, having presented Arsenal with a financial proposal.
“Fabio is a fantastic player, and we feel like we’re fighting for him every single day,” Huwer stated on Tuesday. He added that the club are prepared to make a “competitive offer” within their financial means, without incurring debt. Huwer acknowledged the possibility of Arsenal rejecting their bid, stating they would then pursue alternative targets.
Vieira himself has expressed a positive sentiment towards the club and its supporters, indicating he would be open to a permanent move. Speaking in May, he expressed gratitude for the support he received during his loan spell, stating he “fell a little bit in love” with the club. However, he also indicated he was open to all possibilities regarding his future. The situation remains ongoing, with Arsenal awaiting a more substantial offer or a change in Hamburg’s financial position.
