Hamburger SV have begun negotiations with Arsenal to secure a permanent deal for Fábio Vieira, who has spent the season on loan at the Volksparkstadion, according to Sky Germany. The Portuguese midfielder has become a key figure for HSV since joining last summer, but is currently scheduled to return to North London at the end of the season.
Vieira’s successful loan spell has prompted Hamburg to prioritize his signing, with the club reportedly informing the player that he is central to their future plans. The 24-year-old is understood to be receptive to the idea of staying with HSV, but a deal is contingent on reaching an agreement with Arsenal over a transfer fee.
HSV possess a purchase option of €20 million, however, the club considers this figure to be beyond their current financial capabilities and are now attempting to negotiate a lower fee with the Gunners. This development comes as Vieira enters the final year of his contract at Arsenal, potentially increasing the pressure on the Premier League side to consider a sale rather than risk losing him for free next summer.
Vieira joined Arsenal from Porto in 2022, but has struggled to establish himself as a regular starter under Mikel Arteta, making 31 appearances across all competitions for the club. The loan move to Hamburg offered him the opportunity for consistent first-team football, and he has impressed in the Bundesliga 2, contributing significantly to their push for promotion. His performances have showcased his technical ability and creative passing, making him a valuable asset for HSV.
Should Hamburg succeed in securing a deal for Vieira, it would represent a significant coup for the club and solidify their ambition to return to the Bundesliga. For Arsenal, a sale could generate funds and free up squad space, although they would be losing a player with considerable potential.
