Hamburg SV have announced the signing of Patson Daka from Leicester City, bolstering their attacking options ahead of the new Bundesliga season. The club confirmed the arrival of the 27-year-old forward on Wednesday morning, with Daka signing a one-year contract.
Daka joins Hamburg after his contract with Leicester City expired, arriving on a free transfer. He had been with the “Foxes” since 2021, experiencing two relegations with the club during his time in England. The Zambian international has already completed a medical and joined the HSV squad at their training camp in Austria.
This transfer addresses a significant need for Hamburg following a period of departures in their forward line. Ransford Königsdörffer moved to Mainz 05, Robert Glatzel joined Wolfsburg, and Damion Downs’ loan from Southampton concluded. Additionally, Philip Otele returned to FC Basel after his loan spell.
HSV sporting director Kathleen Krüger highlighted Daka’s qualities, stating he brings “a high level of performance with and without the ball” and consistently prioritizes the team’s needs. She also emphasized his “extensive experience at the international level.”
Daka initially joined Leicester City from RB Salzburg in 2021 for a reported fee of 30 million euros. During his time in England, he made 76 appearances in the Premier League and 61 in the Championship. He has also earned 47 caps for the Zambian national team.
Daka is the fourth new arrival at Hamburg this transfer window, following Kofi Amoako from Dynamo Dresden, Albert Grönbaek from Stade Rennes (who was previously on loan), and Martin Adeline from Troyes. The club may still seek further additions, with reports suggesting Fabio Baldé could also be considering a move away from Hamburg.
