Harry Maguire signs new one-year contract extension at Manchester United
Harry Maguire has signed a new one-year contract with Manchester United, the club has confirmed. The new deal will keep the 33-year-old defender at Old Trafford until at least the summer of 2027.
The club announced the one-year extension on their official website, with the agreement also containing an option for a further 12 months. The England international, whose previous deal was set to expire this summer, has made 20 appearances for United this season, scoring twice.
Maguire, who joined United from Leicester City in 2019 for a world-record fee for a defender, was due to become a free agent at the end of the current campaign. The new terms, triggered by the club, extend his stay at Old Trafford into an eighth season. The club's sporting director, Jason Wilcox, stated that the defender "represents the mentality and resilience required to perform for Manchester United" and praised him as "the ultimate professional."
The 33-year-old has been a key figure under interim manager Michael Carrick, starting the last 10 consecutive Premier League matches before a recent red card suspension. His form earned him a recall to the England squad for the March international break.
In a statement released by the club, Maguire said: "Representing Manchester United is the ultimate honour. I am delighted to extend my journey at this incredible club to at least eight seasons and continue to play in front of our special supporters to create more amazing moments." He added that the "ambition and potential of this exciting squad" was a key factor in his decision to extend his stay.
The new contract provides stability for both player and club, securing the future of an experienced, trophy-winning defender. It also allows United to plan their summer transfer business with a key squad position settled. Maguire, who has made over 200 appearances for the club, will be a central figure as United aim to build on their recent form and challenge for major honours next season.
