- FC Heidenheim have completed the permanent signing of Paul Hennrich from TSG Hoffenheim, both clubs confirmed on Sunday. The 21-year-old forward has signed a long-term contract with Heidenheim, extending to 2031, as they prepare for life in the 2. Bundesliga following their relegation from the Bundesliga.
According to Sky Germany, Hoffenheim will receive a transfer fee of €1.5 million, with the potential for additional bonuses based on performance. A sell-on clause has also been included in the agreement, allowing Hoffenheim to benefit from any future transfer of Hennrich.
Hennrich progressed through the Hoffenheim academy and spent the 2023-24 season primarily featuring for their reserve team, TSG Hoffenheim II, in the 3. Liga. He made a significant impact, scoring nine goals in 36 appearances across all competitions for the reserve side. While he did make a handful of appearances for the first team, he was unable to establish himself as a regular starter.
The move to Heidenheim offers Hennrich the opportunity to gain more consistent first-team football and further develop his potential. Heidenheim CEO Holger Sanwald expressed his delight at securing the signing, stating that Hennrich’s “proven quality” and “mentality” align with the club’s approach. Sanwald also highlighted Hennrich’s ambition as a key factor in his decision to join the club.
Heidenheim will be looking to bounce back to the Bundesliga at the first opportunity, and Hennrich’s arrival adds another attacking option to their squad. Hoffenheim, meanwhile, will hope the transfer fee and sell-on clause provide a return on a player who, despite showing promise, was not immediately breaking into their senior team. This transfer represents a step up in competition for Hennrich and a chance to prove himself at a professional level.
