Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers is prepared to make a move to Arsenal this summer, according to former England international Emile Heskey. The 23-year-old has emerged as a key target for the Gunners, who are reportedly looking to secure his signature ahead of rivals Chelsea following the 2026 World Cup.
Rogers enjoyed a successful 2025-26 season with Villa, scoring 10 goals and providing six assists in 37 Premier League appearances. He is currently with the England squad preparing for the World Cup in North America, where he will have an opportunity to showcase his abilities to Arsenal scouts. The Gunners are exploring a potential deal, though Aston Villa are believed to be hesitant to sell a key player unless a substantial offer is made.
Despite signing a contract extension with Villa in November, Rogers’ future at the club is potentially complicated by financial regulations imposed by the Premier League and UEFA. Heskey, who previously played for both Villa and Liverpool, believes that Villa may be compelled to sell players to maintain financial stability. He acknowledged Rogers’ readiness for a club of Arsenal’s stature, stating, “He's definitely ready for that step up.”
Heskey also expressed concern about a pattern of player sales at Villa Park, referencing the departures of players like Ashley Young, Gareth Barry, and James Milner in the past. He suggested that continued sales could hinder Villa’s ambition to build a team capable of challenging for top honors. Currently, Rogers’ Estimated Transfer Value (ETV) stands at €72.4 million, but Villa are reportedly seeking a fee closer to €100 million for the England international.
Rogers would likely compete with players such as Eberechi Eze, Martin Odegaard, and Mikel Merino for a starting position as a number ten at Arsenal, while also providing an option on the left wing. A move to the Emirates Stadium would represent a significant step up in Rogers’ career and could solidify Arsenal’s attacking options for the upcoming season.
