Bayern Munich honorary president Uli Hoeneß has publicly expressed his admiration for Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi, stating he would sign the player immediately if given the chance. Speaking to DAZN ahead of Bayern's Champions League semi-final second leg against PSG, Hoeneß identified the Moroccan international as a player who would be a strong fit at the German club.
"I would take him immediately, because he would fit in very well with us," Hoeneß said, according to the broadcast interview. The comments constitute a rare public declaration of interest from a senior Bayern figure, though no formal approach or negotiation has been confirmed by either club. Hakimi, who is under contract with PSG until 2026, is not available for the crucial second leg in Munich due to an injury sustained in the first match.
The 27-year-old right-back is familiar with the Bundesliga, having spent two seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund from Real Madrid between 2018 and 2020. During his time in Germany, Hakimi developed into one of Europe's most promising attacking full-backs, contributing 12 goals and 17 assists in 73 appearances across all competitions. His performances there paved the way for a move to Inter Milan and subsequently a €60 million transfer to PSG in 2021.
At PSG, Hakimi has been a consistent starter, making over 40 appearances this season. His potential acquisition would address a position of some flux for Bayern Munich. The club's current options at right-back include Noussair Mazraoui and the often-injured Benjamin Pavard, whose own future has been subject to speculation. Hakimi's profile as an elite, modern full-back with proven experience in Germany aligns with Bayern's typical transfer strategy.
For PSG, selling a key asset to a European rival would be a significant decision, especially given the player's importance to their project. Any potential move would likely command a substantial fee, given Hakimi's contract length and market value. Hoeneß's remarks, while not indicative of an imminent deal, have undoubtedly placed Hakimi's name into the summer transfer conversation surrounding Bayern Munich. The club's sporting leadership, now headed by Christoph Freund, typically operates with more discretion than such public pronouncements suggest.
