Uli Hoeneß, honorary president of Bayern Munich, has become directly involved in contract negotiations with Konrad Laimer, according to reports from Sport1. Discussions between the club, the player, and his representatives have resumed after a period of stalled progress, with Hoeneß outlining the club’s position on potential terms.
Laimer’s current deal with Bayern is set to expire next summer, prompting ongoing talks about an extension. The Austrian international currently earns between €8 and €9 million per year, and had reportedly been seeking a salary in the range of €12 to €15 million as part of any new agreement. However, sources indicate that Hoeneß has communicated to Laimer’s agents that this figure is beyond what Bayern are willing to offer.
Instead, Bayern are prepared to offer Laimer a more “moderate” salary increase, suggesting a compromise is being sought. The intervention of Hoeneß, a highly influential figure at the club, signals the seriousness with which Bayern are approaching the negotiations. His direct involvement suggests a desire to reach a resolution quickly and within the club’s financial parameters.
Laimer joined Bayern in 2022 from RB Leipzig, where he had established himself as a key player under Julian Nagelsmann. The 26-year-old has become a versatile member of Thomas Tuchel’s squad, capable of playing in multiple midfield and defensive positions. He has featured prominently for Bayern this season, contributing both defensively and in attack.
Securing Laimer to a long-term contract would provide Bayern with stability in midfield and prevent the loss of a valuable squad player on a free transfer. The outcome of these negotiations will likely set a precedent for other contract renewals within the Bayern squad, particularly those of players seeking significant wage increases. A successful resolution could also demonstrate Bayern’s ability to retain key talent despite growing financial competition from the Premier League and other European clubs.
