TSG Hoffenheim have reached an agreement to sign Mats Rots from FC Twente, according to reports from AD and Sky Germany. The Bundesliga club will pay an initial fee of €12 million, with potential add-ons that could see the total rise to €16 million, for the 20-year-old left-back.
The deal will see Rots sign a contract with Hoffenheim until 2031, with FC Twente also securing a sell-on clause as part of the agreement. Sky Germany reports that the add-ons are structured to guarantee further payments to the Dutch club over the coming years, bringing the overall value of the transfer up to the reported €16 million.
Rots emerged as a key player for FC Twente during the 2025/26 season, contributing significantly to their attack from the left-back position. He scored five goals and registered four assists in 37 appearances across all competitions, attracting attention from several clubs across Europe. Prior to Hoffenheim’s successful bid, the player had been linked with moves to PSV Eindhoven, FC Porto, and even Premier League side Newcastle United.
Hoffenheim have been looking to strengthen their defensive options ahead of the upcoming season, and Rots fits the profile of a modern full-back capable of contributing in both phases of play. The club finished seventh in the Bundesliga last season, narrowly missing out on European qualification, and will hope that the addition of Rots can help them challenge for a European spot next season. For Twente, the sale represents a significant profit on a young player who has quickly established himself as a promising talent.
The transfer provides Rots with the opportunity to test himself in one of Europe’s top five leagues, and potentially progress his career further under the guidance of Hoffenheim’s coaching staff. His arrival will likely increase competition for the left-back position at the club, and provide tactical flexibility to manager Pellegrino Matarazzo.
