TSG Hoffenheim have refuted reports linking them with a transfer for 1.FC Köln winger Said El Mala, strongly dismissing the speculation as a “transfer hoax”. The denial comes after a story initially published by the Express suggested Hoffenheim were preparing a significant bid for the 19-year-old player.
El Mala has emerged as a promising talent in the Bundesliga, making several appearances for Köln and demonstrating potential as a dynamic attacking player. While Hoffenheim have publicly distanced themselves from the transfer, interest from other clubs remains. Borussia Dortmund are reportedly still pursuing the player, though Köln’s valuation presents a significant obstacle.
According to reports, Köln are seeking a fee of €50 million for El Mala, which would represent a substantial return on investment for the club. This figure is approximately €15 million higher than Dortmund’s current record transfer fee, potentially complicating any potential deal. Several Premier League clubs are also said to be monitoring the situation, adding further competition for his signature.
Christian Ilzer, the head coach of Hoffenheim, has overseen a period of rebuilding at the club, focusing on developing young talent and implementing a clear tactical identity. The club’s swift denial suggests they are content with their current squad options in wide areas, or are unwilling to meet Köln’s financial demands. El Mala’s future remains uncertain, but it is clear that several clubs recognize his potential and are prepared to compete for his services. Dortmund’s pursuit will likely hinge on their ability to negotiate a lower fee with Köln, or potentially offer a player in exchange.
Should El Mala ultimately depart Köln, it would represent a significant loss for the club, but also provide them with substantial funds to reinvest in the squad. His development will continue to be closely watched by clubs across Europe, and a move in the near future appears increasingly likely given the level of interest.
