Hoffenheim's Asllani addresses Barcelona links, focusing on performances
TSG Hoffenheim forward Fisnik Asllani has publicly addressed the growing speculation linking him with a move to FC Barcelona, stating he is focused solely on his current club. The 21-year-old Kosovo international's agent has confirmed initial contact from the Catalan side, according to German outlet Sport Bild, but Asllani insists his priority remains on-pitch contributions.
Speaking after Hoffenheim's 2-1 defeat to Mainz on Saturday, Asllani sought to distance himself from the transfer rumours. "I can only influence what happens on the pitch," he said. "I just try to keep performing and help the team, whether it’s with goals, assists, or whatever. Regardless of everything else, I give my all for the team." He emphasized that off-pitch talk does not concern him, adopting the same mindset he held during a successful loan spell last season.
The young striker is in his first full season with Hoffenheim's senior side after a prolific 2023-24 campaign on loan at SV Elversberg in the 2. Bundesliga. There, he scored 18 goals and provided 9 assists, a breakout performance that brought him to wider attention and earned him a place in Hoffenheim's plans this term. His form has continued in the Bundesliga, making him one of the league's more promising attacking prospects.
Barcelona's interest, while not yet advanced beyond preliminary contact, aligns with the club's established strategy of identifying young, high-potential talent for reasonable fees. With financial constraints still impacting their transfer activity, a move for a developing player like Asllani could represent a more viable market opportunity compared to established stars. For Hoffenheim, a club known for developing and selling talent, a significant offer from a European giant would be difficult to refuse.
The situation remains in its early stages, with no formal offer or negotiations reported. Asllani's current contract with Hoffenheim runs until 2028, giving the German club a strong negotiating position should Barcelona's interest solidify into a concrete proposal. The player's comments suggest he will not agitate for a move, preferring to let his performances dictate the narrative.
For now, the forward's immediate focus is on cementing his place in Pellegrino Matarazzo's side and continuing his adaptation to top-flight football. His pragmatic approach mirrors that of many modern players navigating the early stages of a transfer saga. The coming months will reveal whether Barcelona's initial enquiry evolves into a serious pursuit, potentially testing Hoffenheim's resolve in the winter or summer transfer window.
